There are a lot of ways to say thank you to the dads in your life. We think this one's pretty good.
The Sour Dad is a bourbon cocktail made with our Chai Spice Syrup — bright from the lemon, warming from the spice, smooth from the bourbon. Light enough for a summer afternoon, interesting enough to actually talk about. Deep helped develop this one, and it's become our go-to for when we want something a little more celebratory than a cup of chai.
What You'll Need
Makes 1 cocktail
- 2 oz bourbon
- Juice of ½ lemon
- ⅓ oz Malwa Chai Chai Spice Syrup
- Ice
How to Make It
Add the bourbon, lemon juice, and Chai Spice Syrup to a cocktail shaker with a handful of ice. Shake well — about 15 seconds — until the outside of the shaker feels cold. Pour over fresh ice and serve.
That's it. No straining required, no fancy equipment. Just a good shake and a cold glass.
A Few Ways to Make It Your Own
Go sweeter: Add a touch more syrup — up to ½ oz — if you like your cocktails on the sweeter side or want the chai spice to come forward more.
Go lighter: Swap half the bourbon for sparkling water after shaking for a lower-ABV version that still has all the flavor.
Make it a batch: Multiply everything by 6, mix in a pitcher without ice, and refrigerate. Shake individual portions over ice when you're ready to serve — great if you're hosting.
About the Chai Spice Syrup
Our Chai Spice Syrup is made from the same organic spice blend as our Classic Chai Kit — cardamom, ginger, Ceylon cinnamon, cloves, and black peppercorn — simmered into a simple syrup. It's what gives this cocktail its warmth and depth without any bitterness.
It's also excellent in iced coffee, lemonade, and sparkling water if you want to keep it non-alcoholic. But that's a post for another day.
Happy Father's Day
To the dads who make the chai, the dads who drink the chai, and the dads who somehow always get the last cup — this one's for you.
